WAYFINDING - Final Outcomes and Final Crit

Fig.1

Fig.2

The final outcome is a starting point for the wayfinding system (Fig.1), and the fragments of the route to be taken (Fig.2). The wayfinding system is green to reflect the 'public rights of way' (Fig.3) within the ordinance survey, and to represent to the audience that the system is available and free to anyone wanting to participate, in the same way that public paths are free. The starting point will be placed in the city centre, during Leeds' 'Breeze Arts Festival'. This festival is an annual art festival which showcases work by young people from Leeds. It is a celebration of the city and so my wayfinding system would be an appropriate contribution, as it also celebrates Leeds and the different beautiful vantage points that the city has. The materials for production to be used is stencils and spray paint. The dash-like patterns within the system would make it far too difficult to use stickers, as they would wear out very quickly and be hard and time-consuming to apply. Hand-painting the system onto the ground would also be very time-consuming, as well as having a higher chance of imperfections. Using stencils and spray paint would make the production of the system a lot faster, easier and accurate, as well as giving the system a slightly longer life.

Final Crit Feedback:
- Consider how big the size of the distance text will be in comparison to the pattern sizes.
- Make perspective drawing using line/collage. Create mock-ups for the system.
- Create a 'to scale' example of the system.
- Make a map to visually show where all the locations are, as well as the starting point.
