Studio Brief 1: Final Design Concepts

The idea was to portray the killing of the mockingbird but in a more subtle way. The illustrations of arrows and feathers are used to communicate this, with the placement of them referencing the action of the 'arrow' killing the 'feather'. The background colour of red-orange was chosen to represent partly the action of killing, and partly the deep south setting of the story. The use of black and white for the text is to represent the theme of good and evil within the story, with both colours accordingly applied to the different text elements that correspond to the two aspects of the theme.

The idea was to illustrate and highlight all the different objects of importance throughout the story. They are all laid out in a grid system to portray their importance and impact within the story individually, but also as part of a whole. The background colour of blue was chosen to represent Scout's dungarees, and reference the child's innocent point of view that the story is written in. The use of white for the text was also done because of this, the white gives the overall look a softness and purity, which further reinforces the reference of innocence.
